BUMMER: I sent the “My New Haircut” YouTube meme to one of my new favorite blogs, Sociological Images, and they posted it here. Nice to read their commentary, as always. The meme itself is really kind of depressing, not unlike this other video over here. (Related: I am now officially not into Queens of the Stone Age.) All of these videos (and attendant comments) showcase mobs of people using implied homosexuality as a weapon and/or cheering on said use, whilst displaying the most screwed up definitions of what it means to be male/female/black/mexican/white/non-white/old/gay/straight… human, really. Let’s call it what it is: one massive bummer.

ANTI-BUMMER: This wonderful episode of This American Life, in which the patrons of the Golden Apple diner in Chicago are interviewed over the course of one 24 hour period, and hey, it turns out maybe people aren’t totally shitty after all. God bless this show.
