Of Montreal Issue Album Via Lantern, Tote Bag, Stickers | Pitchfork →
This is kind of brilliant. If you’re someone who just rips to iTunes/iPod and plays from there, the CD really just becomes a piece of art/design anyway. Why not make it a giant poster of a horse instead of a little square thing?
And speaking of (of of?) Of Montreal:

I just got into their first album from 1997, Cherry Peel, and it’s super enjoyable. Major Beatles influence going on, combined with 90’s Athens lo-fi, plus Kevin Barnes sounds like he’s about 16. The lyrics are super heart-on-sleeve (and yes, a little twee) but they’re also big hearted and highly endearing. Who doesn’t want to be told this?: “When you’re loved like you are / Everything falls into place” Favorite part so far is the out-of-nowhere synth-fuzz squeal followed by spazzy guitar solo at the end of “Don’t Ask Me To Explain.” That trick gets me every time. See also: glam-era Brian Eno and Deerhoof.
