This will brighten your day. In honor of Los Angeles and Southern California, where I’m currently hanging out for the weekend.

A Bart-mobile and Neverland Firetruck - Michael Jackson Auction: Sneak Peek - LIFE Wow, I need one of these. Also, Michael has/had some really crazy stuff. PS: That’s this ET, not this ET. Supposedly.

Bentley Rhythym Ace “Bentley’s Gonna Sort You Out”

Listened to the Bentley Rhythm Ace album on the way to work today, and it remains totally enjoyable. Loads of samples, lots of playfulness, and warmth. Makes me feel like I’m walking around a retro-futuristic Tokyo, sipping lemonade, on acid — that kind of thing. For those unfamiliar, these guys were one of the “electronica” “bands” Astralwerks put out in the mid/late-90’s (see also: Chemical Brothers, Air [French Band], Cassius, Tranquility Bass, QBurns Abstract Message, Freaky Chakra, Photek). I was all about this stuff back then, and really, still am. Some of it was lame, but some of it was really fun and catchy and melodic and good. BRA are definitely the latter.

The Avalanches - Since I Left You (Cornelius Remix)

Did you know this existed?  Yeah, me neither!  And it’s good!  Apparently there’s a Stereolab mix too, which I’ll definitely be tracking down now.  There’s also a bunch of rad unreleases tracks and mixes up the Avalanches site, including a free download of their debut 7” from 1997.  1997?  I had no idea these guys had been around that long.
