Nerdiest Manager Ever
I just built two shops, a big one and small one, for Blitzen Trapper’s Facebook page. Facebook just changed the layout of these, so now you can have full tabs devoted to whatever you like. Which isn’t really all that useful until you start playing with the Static FMBL app, which allows you to create your own HTML elements and add them as boxes or full tabs. You can see the small shop on the left hand side of Blitzen’s main Wall tab, and the big one under the appropriately named Shop tab. I would be lying if I told you I didn’t enjoy this stuff.
super sweet willing-to-be-sincere-to-point-of-dorking-out fandom. i feel like i don’t see enough enthusiasm like this anymore— maybe because i read too many blogs, where enthusiasm usually reads as promotion or look-at-me tastefulness, or maybe bc i live in nyc— but it’s really refreshing.
also view the post-anticipation video (and please excuse the mostly appearance-related comments about alela diane, if you can, because sometimes willing-to-be-sincere-to-point-of-dorking-out fandom means saying things you might feel silly about later…) if you care about music, but you don’t care enough about some song or band to risk embarrassing your future self, then what’s the point?

MATT WRIGHT PR *heart* BLITZEN TRAPPER →
Just did a little cleaning up at the old PR site, and I have to say, the above link will always make me smile. This was the first ever quasi-managerial thing I did for BT, and it ended up going really well. Lot’s of people came out! Two records and a few years later (I think this was in 2005), I’m so proud of how far these guys have come. They deserve every bit of it.

Nice Designs from Zachary Hobbs
Last night one of my trusty “blitzen trapper” feed alerts turned up a lovely poster for their upcoming show at the Black Cat in DC. Here it is:

Nice, isn’t it? The designer’s name is Zachary Hobbs, and I was intrigued enough to explore his Flickr pics a bit further. I’m glad I did. Here are some more lovely images for you.

I’m a sucker for good drawings and nice lines; couple those with nice colors and a pleasing overall design aesthetic (um, sorry if I’m using the wrong words here) and I’m sold. Thanks Zach!

Blitzen Trapper - Farthest Shore (unreleased)
In the spirit of holiday giving, here’s an unreleased track from the Trapper. This one is from the aborted album that came before Wild Mountain Nation. I remember sitting in the Civic in my old SE Portland driveway waiting for it to finish, on first or second listen, totally struck by it’s prettiness and really digging that little melodica bit. You can download the MP3 here.
While we’re at it, here’s BT’s lovely Christmas song, off their self-titled 2003 debut.

I’ve always loved the way this song captures the kind of warm surrealness and nostalgia this time of year brings. You’re just going about your life, doing routine stuff, distracted, then oh yeah, it’s totally Christmas again, isn’t it? Donkey Kong, Steve McQueen, Christmas is Coming Soon. Yep.
Oh, and of course no Blitzen Trapper holiday post is really complete without this:
