Jackmaster Mini Mix →
“I wanted to serve up a bunch of the stuff me and my mates at Wireblock have been digging recently: a good dosage of funky, some Baltimore, rave and good dubstep (Zomby). There’s also an exclusive sneak peak of two of our label’s forthcoming releases: “Bad Science” by Rustie and Ghosts On Tape’s massive “Predator Mode”, a track currently being remixed by Roska for release on Wireblock in the spring.”
I wouldn’t even know what to call this music beyond just plain old “dance music” — and that’s a good thing. Eclectic, funky, fun; fine Friday headphone jamming material.
Philip Sherburne also has a fantastic dubby techno-ish mix up here.
And speaking of music to get you pumped for the weekend, I’d like to take this time to remind you that the song embedded below — Bizarre Inc’s “I’m Gonna Get You” — is the epic jam of the century. Everything before led to this; everything since has been prologue. Yeah, I said it.

FACT mix 46: Cooly G →
Cooly G, who’s a semi-pro female footballer and UK house producer from Brixton, South London, describes her sound as having a “deep house tribal dubstep vibe”, and you can see why - where as Roska or Crazi Cousinz operate firmly (or is that fruitily?) in the Funky end of the Funky/UK house spectrum, and Lil Silva and Hard House Banton are jump-up grime in all but name, Cooly G’s productions exist in their own hinterland - abstract post-garage beats that slowly shuffle into life, and favour cut up vocal snippets to RnB ballads.
Enjoying this — murky and funky.

philip sherburne: What I Like About Wonky →
Anyway, this mixtape by Jamie Vex’d has just about everything I like about wonky right now. Those things include screaming leads, pitch-bend, beats that feel like they’re telescoping to a full stop, underwater sounds, sounds that sound like bongs in Tron would sound; talcum-clouded handclaps; zipper-factory field recordings; angelic choruses, demonic choruses; back-masking; rimshots; syncopated, Detroity chord stabs; full-on Black Dog homages; chart hip-hop mixed with what I could swear is Disjecta; spangles, icing, fringe, unnecessary cuffs; filter resonance; moments of almost shocking beauty; sirens. Now that’s one hell of a description. Sign me up! Not surprisingly, I’m enjoying the mix as well.

Awesome weirdo electro party jams, courtesy of Sinden. Good for bouncing in your office chair. Or on a dancefloor, I imagine!

Speaking of Bullion, this gold-themed mix is pretty great.

allez-allez: wide open spaces →
Wonderful, as always. Spacy, ambient, driving, and warm. I’ll be searching out this Supermayer mix of Hot Chip’s “One Pure Thought” now. The original of that tune is totally blinding too, and very much worth checking out.
